No, it is stock. Confirmed from them that it is to store the power cable.

OK, so I just emailed them and got a super quick reply. Here is the answer from Ashdown: "Hi , That is NOT a port, it is a storage tube for the mains lead !" And there you have it. Thank all who offered legit responses.

Did you test the tube cutting with the same speaker to see what the difference was? Which speaker did you test it with? What are your thoughts on ported vs. not ported? Thank You again!

So I have this Ashdown Studio 8 small combo amp. I love it. Perfect for my apartment and it really sounds great. I took the speaker out to see what it was (oddly enough it is a 4 ohm 20 watt speaker where the amp is clearly listed in their manual as "30 watts into 8 ohms"... whatever that means...

I took mine apart just now and sure enough I got the same results as you. But I guess the thing is that it is 20 watts so at 4 ohms it will run 40 watts of power since the output is 8 ohms right? Also, why is there a port in the back that leads to a tube that is sealed off from the cab? Whats up...

So to be clear, you did put a 4 ohm speaker in an 8 ohm amp cabinet? I thought you weren't supposed to do that? The specs for my studio 8 on the Ashdown site say it is 30watts in to 8 ohms...
