Can anyone explain this "port"? Ashdown Studio 8

OK, so I just emailed them and got a super quick reply.

Here is the answer from Ashdown:
"Hi , That is NOT a port, it is a storage tube for the mains lead !"

And there you have it. Thank all who offered legit responses.

But what about the speaker?

But is it also an actual port or just a cubby hole?

It's closed in the front and open in the rear, so I'm going with Power Cord Shipping Port. Port sounds so much better that hole. I haven't used it since.
But I'm curious.... if I stuff a sock in it, will I lose my Midrange Timbre and Harmonics?

I'm gonna stick with the concept of that being where you store your port.

OK, so I was trying to not say this, but that was the first thing I thought of lol, especially since it is sealed on the front end and things won't wind up out of reach within the cabinet. AND the cable can secure the load lol
