I like to keep the grill off. The barely painted and ashy face plate was an eye sore. So I smoothened the rough vent ports and spray painted it. There was a HUGE improvement in sound j/k

I say plug your guitar straight into POWER AMP IN. That's as flat as you would get, because it skips all the tone altering circuitry and goes straight to power amp

I had the same issue when I tried to turn it up past 1/4 volume, the speaker would begin to fart. I got a 400W Eminence Legend BP102 8 ohm speaker (USA Made) and replaced the 60W Malaysia made speaker. No more distortion. Deep bass all the way at high volume.
