Double Bass Do Scrolls Look Stupid on EUBs?

Well personally i like to see a nice (albeit modified & scaled ) scroll on my EUBs. Helps to make it look a bit more like a db and not an upright fretless. Ian

Concern about dark/thick grain on EUB neck

I dont think they see the grain orientation as a problem, its not fixable nor should it be a problem. Obviously perfect quartersawn wood is not in the spec for these instruments. The dings however are a QC failure so they are putting their hands up for that and offering a new instrument or...

Concern about dark/thick grain on EUB neck

These necks are quite thick and there's a fair chunk of wood in the FB that it's laminated too, ok it's not the best selection of neck wood but i wouldn't worry about it.

Double Bass Inexperienced luthier building an electric cello

Double Bass Building EUB, how much will thickness of solid boldy affect ?

Personally i'd say just be aware of the weight. My very first EUB had a thick body and consequently was very heavy. Picking it up was a two handed operation ...not good! Depending on the wood i'd say actually go as thin as you can without compromising body strength. ..theres a fair bit of...
