New American Standard Jazz Bass 450 dollars reduced - worth it?

As silly as it may seem, one thing I really fancied about that particular discounted Jazz Bass was the look and the color. That olympic white color paired with the dark pickguard looked really sleek; it's the same one as the one in the picture.

Really, those V-Mod Pickups aren't that good? I thought they sounded nice in the demos I saw online. However, as Shorty3 mentioned, it seems very likely that the American Pro P-Basses will be discontinued soon/are discontinued, so I'll be keeping an eye out for the newer ones...

Yeah, I guess that's what I would be doing if I got the Jazz, haha, but it may go the other way round, if I got the P-Bass; I'm really spoiled for choice. Btw, very nice looking basses, good job!

Not a bad idea, I just prefer the security of being able to try it in person before buying it, knowing that I like it enough and that it's in good shape. It's also harder to find a color you dig that way.

That's a rather specific fault. I'll definitely keep this in mind the next time I try it, thanks!

Well, I think in this case it has been left over because the general demand for bass guitars isn't so high. The guy at the music store (which specialises in guitars) even said himself that less and less people are shopping for basses. Overall, I thought that the Jazz there was very nice, for me...

Thanks for all the advice so far guys, I really appreciate it! After thinking about it a bit, I'm probably just going to go and try out the Professional P bass (keeping in mind that the new series may be on the way soon) again and compare it in detail to the jazz bass and see how I feel then...

Much appreciated! Yeah, I'll definitely give the Performers a try as well, though I'm just happy to spend whatever it takes to get a real nice bass for life.

Thank you! I don't quite get why basses are so much more expensive in the US than compared to the ones in Europe, the American Professional P-Bass for instance costs 1500$ over there whereas here they go around for 1700€. Quite odd. I very much agree with your point that one should pick out the...

Yeah, I hadn't actually thought of it in that way before, that could be a good way of doing it. Thank you for responding!

Wow, interesting thought. When I tried it, considering that I'm not a bass player (I play guitar), the neck felt nice, it seemed like a nice, new instrument! But I'll give your idea about asking for a discount some thought... thanks for responding!

Thanks for the advice! I've already tested both, though I haven't made any direct, proper comparisons yet; I'll certainly do that soon.

Hi, I'm new here; Lately, I've been thinking of buying my first bass guitar; either a P-Bass or a Jazz Bass, although I'm heavily leaning towards a P-Bass (cause that's what you find on many of those 60s Beach Boys Records for instance). Currently, my music store has a new American Standard Jazz...
