    Ampeg Rocket Bass Combos

I tried the 15" last week and thought the sound was pretty good. I was about to go pick up the Roland 120xl bass cube that I mentioned in a few posts up (it was only $279 and sounded great) but it sold yesterday. I haven't played the 12" Ampeg but I don't think I'd use all 200w of the 15"...

    Ampeg Rocket Bass Combos

Can we get more on this 12" vs 15" thing? For my purposes (home practice, band rehearsals, small gigs) either one should be loud enough, it's more of a tonal thing I'm concerned about.

    Ampeg Rocket Bass Combos

I'm looking for a combo for at home practice, jams, and maybe some small gigs. I'm torn between the Ampeg RB115 and a Roland 120xl bass cube that came up used for a good price. Anybody whose played the Roland, which would better suit my purposes?

Is the Roland Cube 120xl still relevant?

Most of the reviews for the Roland are pre-2015 or so, and since then several small combos have come to market that are highly regarded. Just wasn't sure if Roland was still "hip." I thought the Ampeg sounded more organic, a little deeper. The Roland had this unpleasant mid frequency that was a...

Is the Roland Cube 120xl still relevant?

Aight, I haven't posted here in a while. I'm starting to get back into bass playing after a sizable hiatus and need to buy an amp. I've played through Fender Rumbles, the Ashdown Studio, Markbass, and an Ampeg Rocket Bass combo. Today I went to GC and they had a used Roland Bass Cube 120xl...

Squier VM '70s Jazz vs G&L Tribute JB

I wish. I was told by the owner of my local GC that they would have both models in about 3 weeks from now. The next shipment from G&L is in a week, then the Squier will be here 2 weeks from then. Apparently the G&Ls are slow sellers, so their shipments tend to be less frequent. The Squiers are...

Squier VM '70s Jazz vs G&L Tribute JB

Well, I just came back in town last night and was planning on checking out GC and my local shop later today. It turns out the '70s Jazz that didn't seem to be going anywhere sold Saturday night. On a brighter note, they just got their first shipment of the 2019 '70s Jazzes under the name...

Can It Be Done? - '51 Pickup in Squier Bronco

Is it worth doing, or is it better to get the CV '50s model for $400? They could probably be found used for about $250.

Can It Be Done? - '51 Pickup in Squier Bronco

I guess the better question is, should it be done? I was just thinking (a very dangerous pastime), and I got the idea that maybe throwing a '51 P-style pickup into the $150 Squier Bronco could essentially make a poor man's CV '50s or Fender Sting at a much lower cost. I don't know that it's...

Is it just me, but I just don't get the whole PJ thing

Anyone remember the Squier Deluxe series? That range killed! (But ultimately was killed) I personally think the PJ configuration started simply as a marketing scheme. It has some merit, but ultimately the P Bass sounds best as a P Bass and the Jazz Bass sounds best as a Jazz Bass. I haven't...

Squier VM '70s Jazz vs G&L Tribute JB

I noticed there is a "JB2" for quite a bit less. What's the difference (other than the lack of blocks and a pickguard) between the JB and JB2?

Squier VM '70s Jazz vs G&L Tribute JB

The Squier MSRP is $350. I can't imagine playing much less, my local GC gets stubborn about discounting anything beyond a strap or package of picks. I could see the G&L's going on sale at some point, though.

Squier VM '70s Jazz vs G&L Tribute JB

I heard the new ones have different pickups. I believe the specimen I played was a 2017 or 2018 and sat in a warehouse for some time.

Squier VM '70s Jazz vs G&L Tribute JB

Yeah, I was planning on trying the '70s next to some P basses that I liked. Squier is coming out with the 2019 '70s P in Walnut and the '51 in 2-Tone next month, but I've heard mixed opinions on the Indo Classic Vibes. Also, I don't want to risk that bass being sold in the next few weeks, even...

Squier VM '70s Jazz vs G&L Tribute JB

Oh, and some links: https://www.guitarcenter.com/Squier/Classic-Vibe-70s-Jazz-Bass-Maple-Fingerboard.gc Invalid Link Removed G&L's website says it's actually Brazillian Cherry. GC's says Brazillian Rosewood, unless I read something wrong.
