Can It Be Done? - '51 Pickup in Squier Bronco

I guess the better question is, should it be done?

I was just thinking (a very dangerous pastime), and I got the idea that maybe throwing a '51 P-style pickup into the $150 Squier Bronco could essentially make a poor man's CV '50s or Fender Sting at a much lower cost.

I don't know that it's possible, but what if... It would certainly be unique.

You can do that but you'll need to modify the pickguard a bit since the '51 is a little bigger. I would look Sentell Pickups. They make a few that will fit a Musicmaster bass and therefore a Bronco with no modification.

I did it, had to trim some of the scpb top flatwork to get it through the hole in the pickguard. The regular Fender bass bridge will also work, so the magnets and strings line up pretty good.

Is it worth doing, or is it better to get the CV '50s model for $400? They could probably be found used for about $250.

The Bronco is lightweight and 30" scale. The CV 50s is 10 pounds and 34" scale. So it is irrelevant what they go for used. What did you end up doing?
