i had a brainwave and luckily, i've got another jag bass here so i swapped out the jack input by disconnecting the wires at the switch and the battery instead of the jack, just to make sure it's not my wiring, fitted them into the faulty bass.. and the problem is still there. so that rules out...

still need advice with this one, replaced the wiring between the battery and the input which didn't work, now running new wire between the switch to the input.. if this doesn't work i'm back to square one :(
