Single coil buzzing during the day?

Like a lot of people on this thread, the first thing that came to mind was a light dimmer circuit, which I’ve seen generate noise only when the light was dimmed (as it might be during the day). The other source I’ve run into is old-fashioned CRT « picture tube » displays, like old computer...

How to Simplify Basslines(White Room by Cream)

There's an art and a craft to recognizing what's compositionally functional in a bassline, and what's decoration. The former, you really want to play correctly and with authority, every time. The latter, you can copy note-for-note, leave-out, or replace according to the moment.

Which bass (P, J, MM) sounds best live?

No. Seriously, in 50 years of listening to and playing live rock/blues/jazz music, I have noticed zero correlation of the choice of bass design and pickup placement and the bass sounding great in the house.

How to transpose from E major down to B major with a 4 string?

I went to a 5 string years ago because of this sort of thing. There are two other options you didn’t mention: Retune the bass from EADG to BEAD for the song. This is probably impractical because of the time lost in performance and the unlikelihood that the strings will be playable with so much...

    1964 P Bass - What is it’s Fate?

Replace the body is one obvious answer that's been repeated a few times here (and it ain't a bad idea on the face of it), but I'm curious as to just how bad the balance is on the double amputee. If it's oddball but actually highly playable, I'd consider restoring it as if the mod was done "right".

Can YOU hear relative water temperature?

I think it behooves us to ask, "What's the best metal for faucet?".

Can YOU hear relative water temperature?

I discovered this relatively recently. The wash basin where I shave is a very long way from the water heater, and I have to let the hot water run for several minutes before it starts to come out hot. For literally years, I'd stick a finger in the flow periodically to monitor, but then realized...

Tone. Is it the bass or the strings or both.

I generally say that tone is in the fingers, but in this case, it's also in the EQ. And I don't think he's using flats.

Dead spot between fourth and 6th fret on G string.

It's not the real reason I play headless graphite basses almost exclusively, but it's one of the ancillary ones. On my other basses, I just put a little more force into playing that part of that string. It's less obnoxious than room resonances, most of the time.

Does Anyone Still Play Music Man Basses

I still play a Music Man, but only when I play fretless. ‘cos my only fretless is also my only Music Man. It’s true that I haven’t seen a lot of MMs on stage lately, but as others have noted, they’ve gone in and out of fashion a couple of times since the 70s and may well be in an “out” phase.

Powered cabinets for bass- your take?

I use powered PA cabs for various things, from time to time, including bass in a rock group. For quiet folk/jazz stuff, the 12” full range Yamaha is just fine for bass, but for loud hard rock I find that adding the matching powered sub is really desirable. Just bringing a powered cab is less...

What is the bass you'd keep if you had to only have one?

Either this one or it’s near-identical twin, which has simpler electronics but weighs a little less. It’s a Status Graphite Stealth. The ergonomics are superb and the monocoque graphite fiber design makes it both amazingly rigid and surprisingly light.

Does anyone use computer based bass plugins live?

That’s far less the case than it was a few years ago. With a reasonably powerful computer - I use high-end Windows laptops, sometimes marketed as “gaming” laptops and contemporary audio/MIDI interfaces from Zoom and Focusrite, and I get a latency low enough to be just fine in a live situation...
