That's the way to go. Start with what you have. Wilde P46 is a great pickup! Split coils of any format get my vote in general; if you want a soapbar, Nordstrand BigSplit is pretty cool too. I'm assuming you're talking 4-string; for a fiver, I'd consider a humbucker - I'm auditioning a BigRig...
