Using a bass as a midi controller

Hey guys hope this is the right place to post this, but this is probably going to be a loaded question so I apologize. Anyway, I have been really intrigued by several videos I have seen of people using basses to control midi with one of the hexaphonic pickups run through a midi interface like a...

    8 string question

Bridge looks to have a good amount of extra space, and truss rod is working nicely it appears. The bass also plays very nice and is clearly intonated across the entire neck. It just lacks the power I want, the strings just seem a little weak to me, though it could just be my amp. I will...

    8 string question

Hey guys, I've been playing around with my new ESP 8 string bass and I want to eventually downtune it to something like CGCF but the slots on the bridge saddles and nut look too small to accomodate heavier gauge strings, would it be possible for me to enlarge the slots on the nut and bridge so I...

    Pawn Shop Find

Nice find! I just got my 8 string for Christmas today in the form of an ESP B208, they are LOADS of fun to play!

On the way to get a new Bass!!!

I love that new bass feeling! Going to have my first 8 string bass in a couple of days hopefully :D (ESP B208)

I wish I could keep it!

I like the way you think! :D currently contemplating whether I should play on it when I go out for a show tomorrow...It has seen better days but this may be the only chance I have to play a show with a Ric 4001

    The ONE

I wish I could narrow it down to just one bass. I jump between my Spector 6 string and my ESP 8 string all the time.

    Lower end Spectors?

My main bass is a spector legend classic 6. The bass has amazing lows and if I decide to go up high the highs sound great as well. The EMG SSDs are great pickups (though I plan to replace mine soon) and the neck feels great.

Not a bad idea, afraid he wouldn't like that idea very much..then again, that's what he gets for loaning ME his nice Ric :D

I wish I could keep it!

If only I could save up and buy the Ric off him, I just got a new B208 ESP that will be coming in soon. Hopefully that bass turns out nicely. As to the refinishing to red to hide the blood, as good of an idea as that is, the bass's natural black and white finish is too nice :p.

The tapes definitely feel good on the fingers, and the tone suits a certain style of playing, it's just for what I play it doesn't suit me much.

I wish I could keep it!

It could just be the tapewounds, but I possibly see what you mean about the tone. As a lifelong player of roundwounds (generally nickels) the tone on the Rick seems to be a LOT different. It could also be due to the age, though. This thing is OLD and the electronics look like they could use some...

I wish I could keep it!

He never actually said he LIKED the bass when he played it so I can sure hope :p. On a side note, the bass has some tapewound strings on them that I really like, have never tried tapewound strings before.

I wish I could keep it!

So my friend just went on vacation for a couple weeks and he decided to leave me with his old Rickenbacker 4001! I instantly plugged it in and noticed that it had seen better days. Despite its age, however, it still plays like a dream. I only wish I could keep it :crying:

    Basses you got cheap

I got my 6 string Spector brand new from my local music shop 350$, I couldn't refuse it at that price. To sweeten the deal, it plays better than the other dozen or so basses I had tried at the time!
