I own a 2011 American Deluxe Jazz V, I love her so much. She has the most incredible sound without being plugged in, and a wonderfully smooth sound both live and in the studio. I recently had to take my bass to the shop because the pickups were buzzing a lot. I thought it was a grounding issue...

I agree with this statement in full... As for active or passive it depends on what you want your sound to sound like. Do you trust your sound tech to give you that sound? If not stay with active. As for the p bass I can't say I'm a jazz bass guy. Blessings~

You're on the right path... American Deluxe is the way to go for sure. The new Fender American Deluxes all come with a custom molded case so traveling shouldn't be a problem. Whether you go for a rosewood fretboard or maple fretboard depends on the type of playing that you'll be doing, if you do...

It really depends on the Fender you grab. An American Deluxe Jazz Bass is going to sound a million times better than a Standard Jazz
