New Aguilar 210 Combo vs Micro VR 210 Mini Stack

Personally, I don't mind the looks of the combo, I like the vintage vibe . I will also say I never personally loved the Tone Hammer sound, I actually sold a TH500 few years back. People say they take tweaking to dial in, I'm sure it's a very good amp. I just never quite connected with it...

New Aguilar 210 Combo vs Micro VR 210 Mini Stack

I use a Micro VR 210 stack for rehearsals with a small ensemble. Light and portable, sounds great, gets the job done. It's "loud" enough but I find the single 210 cab lacks a bit of support in the deepest lows. Rubbing up against the the physics limitations of a sealed 2x10 box, sometimes it...

Can't Remember Brand Name - Boutique Solid State Amps

    It was hillbish. I remembered.

Can't Remember Brand Name - Boutique Solid State Amps

Nope, it's way less "mainstream" than Darkglass. Maybe a somewhat custom-level thing or one man shop.

Can't Remember Brand Name - Boutique Solid State Amps

I'm trying to remember the name of an amp company I came across awhile back. The only info I have is that it's a very small, boutique company, they make some high-wattage amps like 900 watts or something. Seem to be liked by metal or hard-rock players, and they have a clean/industrial/minimal...

    Ampeg B-15 Appreciation Post

Over this past weekend I played a small gig which had a 1967 B-15NF for a backline. It's been a few years since I played a B-15 and I guess I just forgot how great they can sound. The thing looked pretty rough and plugging in, I expected some quirks - rattling, farting out, etc. To my pleasant...

    Ultra boutique P bass pickups

One other note I'd like to point out after living with the Arcanes for a bit longer. Compared to the previous Aguilars, and stock Fenders (don't know which Fenders come in a MIM pbass as I took them out along time ago) the Arcanes seem slightly more microphonic. To my ears, this is a good thing...

    Really great P bass tone

Another aspect to this tone, especially the opening notes, is the fact that he's fretting the line up around the 10th fret. With flats on a P, the tone gets more thick and wooly the higher up the neck you go, with less sustain which gives more of a wooly thump. Something to consider if the line...

P-Bass Pickup Plastic Covers - Buzz When Touched?

I have a pbass with pickups that seem to buzz/hum a bit when touching the poles, the plastic covers or even when holding hands close to the top of pickups (when not holding onto the strings to ground the guitar). Holding the strings to ground the guitar resolves all of this. Have not gone...

Static in Pots after Wiring Harness Upgrade

New harness is exhibiting same issue, albeit much much more subtle. I'm thinking this may have to do with the condition of the foil on the inside of the pickguard. It's super chewed up around the pots and jack from the old star washer that was in there. Smoothing it out a bit so there's some...

Static in Pots after Wiring Harness Upgrade

Nevermind - there's more than enough info out there showing proper technique, and it's basically exactly how I approached this project.

Static in Pots after Wiring Harness Upgrade

What's your recommended technique for soldering to the body of a pot?

Static in Pots after Wiring Harness Upgrade

Yeah I need a multi meter. It's possible the pots could've been damaged, but honestly, knowing that's a possibility I soldered as quickly and cleanly as I could at 350 C, it was pretty much in and out. I've also heard that pots are much more durable against heat damage than is commonly...

Static in Pots after Wiring Harness Upgrade

Metal, very nice new pots. Took the harness out of the guitar and just have it on my wooden desk, plugged in. If I turn the pots while not touching the harness in any way, I get the scratchiness. If I hold onto either pot body, scratchiness goes away, so it's grounding through me and reducing...

Static in Pots after Wiring Harness Upgrade

It's not the sound of scratchy/oxidized pots which I know well. It's a more subtle static that is irregular and can also be triggered by putting a little force on the pot in either direction or wiggling them etc. Touching the strings quiets the issue...
