New Aguilar 210 Combo vs Micro VR 210 Mini Stack

The bass focal length stuff, is just plain wrong.
The 10s being quik, and 15s muddy, is a generalisation, than can apply. The under powering thing, came from back in the day, from PA systems, when amps were best to be over the total wattage of the speakers used. This was to enable to get full SPL from said speaker system, WITHOUT the amp going into clipping, and destroying the speakers.
I can see the '15s being muddy' apply if they are a high qts speaker being loaded into a too small of a box, which I bet did happen in the past, or high frequency response that drops off quicker off axis due to larger cone diameter.
Interesting backstory in the under powering myth. Clipping amps is definitely a problem, and I can see how it turned into the story we know today.
Maybe it's best to say that some of the audio myths are oversimplifications and partial truths.

But Yahboy, haven't you heard? Aguilar throws in a free family-sized bottle of Tide liquid detergent and Downey fabric softener with each purchase of that combo! :D

People definitely do believe this stuff. This myth ranks up with the "under powering speakers damages them" myth. Or the "10's are fast, 15's are muddy" myth.
Oh yes. And let's not forget the myth that 15" speakers provide more lows than 10" speakers. I remember back in the day when so many bass players would stack a 410 cab on top of a 15 cab, and they would say that they have the 15 cab there to provide the lows. I guess they weren't aware that in most cases, their 410 cab actually had a lower -3dB downpoint than their 15 cab. Whenever someone says that 15" speakers have a lower frequency response than 10" speakers, I guide them to Acme cabs loaded with 10's. They go WAAAAY lower than most 15's. Myth busted. The only thing speaker diameter tells you is how big around the speaker is. And believe it or not, there are people out there in the world who believe that they can swap out a speaker in their cab with any other brand of speaker as long as it has the same diameter. They don't take into consideration Thiele-Small parameters of the drivers and the design of the cab. Oh well, I guess that's the world we live in. 🤷‍♂️

OP: sorry for the derail on myths. Now back to our regularly scheduled programming discussing the Ag combo vs the Micro VR stack.

The AG combo is interesting, looks like something that came out of the 1960's lol. Looks don't matter as much to me, I care more about sound anyways. Back to the Micro VR, I noticed it's 200 watts into 4 ohms, the svt210 cab is 8 ohm. So adding another 8 ohm cab could be a good way to get more output. 200 watts is enough power with the right cabs. Years ago I used to use a Fender BXR300c which put 200 watts at 8 ohms to the speaker (in this case an Eminence Delta 15.) it could generally keep up in a loud rock band, but adding a second cab would provide some headroom.

Small wattage, just doesn't bother me anymore. My main gigging amp is a Ampeg pf50t through 2x Bergantino NXV210s. I also have a Mesa TT800, that only comes out for large 1,000 plus ,outdoor gigs.
I think not all of us are OK with in ears, myself being one. These lower wattage compact combos , have a emerging market, of portable, good sounding, riggs for a quieter stage..

This rig has seen duty in all kinds of gigs from small coffeehouses to big festival stages.

Killer rigg ! Portable, huge sounding ( I take it).
Yes, it really was; it amazed a whole lot of people how loud it could get. I no longer have anything in that photo except for the guitar stand.
I still run 2 x 210s, but I don't need to.
I used to have two EV B-210 cabs in a few years on either side of Y2K, usually with one of two Gallien-Krueger 700RBs, or for a short while with an Eden WT400.

Nowadays I just have a couple of 1-10 LDS cabs that Don made for me (the last two of four cabs he has built for me).

Man, that Guild looks awesome! I spent most my life playing 6str guitar, so I'm ignorant to heaps of rare basses. It reminds me of the Ovation Breadwinner. (Except its Guild, and a bass !)

I'm wondering if the reference to "bass focal length" is related to the myth that existed decades ago where some people incorrectly believed that in order to hear bass frequencies, i.e., long wavelength sound waves, you had to be at least one full wavelength away from the sound source for it to "fully develop" as it was called way back in the day. Of course, that myth was never true because sound waves can be heard anywhere along the wave form. If that wasn't the case, you would never be able to hear bass frequencies through headphones or ear buds. I will admit, I have never heard of "bass focal length" before, so I am only guessing that it might be related to said myth. 🤷‍♂️
solid guess though.
