I have that same bass in Blizzard Pearl. You are correct, that 4th knob is mid control and should have a center detente. I got mine for a steal - $370. Great, versatile sound.

I'm just starting out as well and I have done pretty well with "Learn To Fly" and "Times Like These" from the Foos.
