Hey so i recently came across a cheap one of these and I was wondering how everyone feels about them...it is a student model...but what does that even mean? It will end up costing about 800 dollars total. Is this worth it?

haha about half of it i can sing. My teacher is working with me on it. I think that's the ultimate goal of transcribing is being able to play what you hear in your head.

Wow thanks guys for the suggestions! I have actually done the wilbur ware transcription which is a really cool solo but I did have of it by ear. I played through it a couple times with the music and then tried to figure it out again by ear. This time will probably be by ear the whole way...

Hey I need to find a good bass solo to transcribe for my jazz class. I've just recently started transcribing by ear so I would need something rather easy to pick up. Any suggestions?

sweet thanks, im new to this whole thing so thats very useful. would you say the bridge is the next contributing factor to tone besides the strings and pickups of course.

So I have an old squier p-bass body that I've stripped of hardware and plan putting nicer stuff on it so I can have a nice sounding P-bass with my limited funds available. My question is what pickups would give me tone in the vein of Operation Ivy type stuff. I really dig Matt Freeman's tone...

thanks guys, yes i knew that was the wrong word i was just having a brain fart at that moment. about 20 minutes after i started this i realized it was transcribe. durr... yes i can read music, i struggle with reading something with lots of syncopation, something i should probably focus on...
