    Repainted P-Basses - Guitars R Us (Sunset Blvd.) - 1980's

Yep, that's it. Went there all the time, he had great guitars. A shame I was only taking home $149/week managing a bookstore. To get the bass I mentioned in the OP, I had to borrow the $550 from an old friend. Can I please go back in time? Please?

    Repainted P-Basses - Guitars R Us (Sunset Blvd.) - 1980's

Right, Albert, that was his name. Couldn't remember it. Nice guy, as I remember. That all makes sense, thanks for solving the mystery. Wish I could walk into that store again, circa 1987-88...

    Repainted P-Basses - Guitars R Us (Sunset Blvd.) - 1980's

The strange thing is that they were all early '65's and older. But your point is well taken. I wonder if they'd all previously had pretty banged up finishes and someone thought "hell, let's just re-spray 'em". It was quite a sight, though.

    Repainted P-Basses - Guitars R Us (Sunset Blvd.) - 1980's

Been wondering about this for a long time. Sometime in 1987, I walked into Guitars R Us on Sunset Blvd there were tons of refinished 1960's Fender basses (may have been guitars, too - I don't remember), maybe 10 of each. The P-Basses were $550, the J-Basses $600 (or $650, the memory is...

    Fender Japan question

Thought I'd resurrect this thread to ask a few questions about Fender Japan Jazz basses. I just got a beautiful (looking, playing, sounding) used JB75-105US/BD 3T/R. Sorry I don't have a photo handy, but will post one shortly. Some thoughts/questions: - "JB75" denotes Jazz Bass 1975. I...

MIJ J-Bass - bridge and pickup covers?

Loved it for the 15 years I had it, but just couldn't justify holding on to a guitar I didn't play more than twice a year. Still can't believe it brought $2K.

MIJ J-Bass - bridge and pickup covers?

to ENGINE: The only thing that gives me pause is that I just sold a 1985 MIJ telecaster on eBay for $2025 (!). Can't believe the MIJ's have become collectible at all. But I think you're right - why get hung up on it? If they'd only gotten the typeface on the headstock right, this thing...

MIJ J-Bass - bridge and pickup covers?

Longtime lurker, first time poster. Great site! Just got a MIJ Fender Jazz bass, JP75 (1975 reissue) model. I've played p-basses for years and really wanted a Jazz bass. I love the new bass. I have a set of the chrome pickup and bridge covers and would like to put them on the bass...
