With regards to the electronics (or any electronics), its not water that ruins them, but the water allowing electricity to jump between points it shouldnt (a short circuit). You could, in theory, submerge a laptop in the tub, and as long as it was completely dry before you tried to turn it back...

Petary791, did you end up doing this or finding anything more about it? I've been trying to figure out how to do the same thing on my Carvin bass, those blend knobs are useless for changing tones mid-song it seems. Mine is active electronics too, though.

Just to chime in, my friends dad has a '74 Les Paul (A guitar, not a bass, but the issues would be the same) that he used to hang, and it did eventually wear out the finish around the headstock where it hung from. Now, its not like he needed to set up the instrument every time he took it...
