Thanks for the replies! I think I'm just going to stick the original speaker back in it. It wasn't getting a lot of use anyway, so throwing more money at it seems a little pointless (but fun!).

So... took an old Ibanez junk bass and ripped the old frets off to turn it into a fretless. So far, all things considered, the process has worked out fairly well. Got to the point where I re-finished the fretboard and I used Tung oil. All good... beautiful look and I assume the finish will last...
