Yet another Fretless string advice question

I do not like fret lines to the extent that I almost had the fretboard replaced. I live in the next town over from Woodstock, NY and the area attracts a large number of excellent luthiers, I’ve had extensive work done in the past for a very reasonable price.

Yet another Fretless string advice question

Great responses, thank you all. I ordered a set of DR Pure Blue. I have a fairly light touch, been playing for almost 50 years, I’ve definitely gotten better over the years. Never liked the fretboard, I don’t like lines or markers, so it wouldn’t break my heart to have to replace it. Thanks again.

Yet another Fretless string advice question

I want to restring my Fender Jazz Deluxe. Problem is, I hate the feel of flatwounds. I’ve tried several brands/types and yes, even tapewound, but they just feel weird to me. My favorite wound strings are nickel, specifically DR Pure Blues for reference. Looking for alternatives and could use...

    A musician’s relative worth…

I saw Jordan Rudess playing a grand piano in a nice (not Michelin stars nice) restaurant in rural upstate New York; he lived nearby. I doubt anyone else knew who he was (maybe a half dozen parties present). He was great and the diners appreciated him. He was probably there to play what he wanted...

small mixer recommendation: Soundcraft Signature? Zoom Livetrak? carrots?

We've only used it for a brief time, but the 100Hz HPF is usable for everything except bass and kick. I can't hear it muffling anything on the guitar.

small mixer recommendation: Soundcraft Signature? Zoom Livetrak? carrots?

We just replaced our Behringer with a Soundcraft Signature 22. Vastly superior in every way. We have a sound guy, with years of real world experience, recently retired. He did sound for some of the biggest names out there, using top of the line equipment. He picked this one out for us and we’re...

    Power amp sections in bassheads

This is exactly why I bought a BB800. I have an embarrassing large number of preamps, in both rack and pedal form. Getting tired of carting my Crown power amp around, I began looking for a small, class D amp. Long (boring) story short, I picked up a BB800 as soon as they came out and have never...

    Multi-effect / all-in-one pedals for bass?

I’ve been using a TC Plethora X5 for a couple of years now. It’s the only multi effects I’ve stuck with. I went back and forth between the HX Stomp and Plethora, but finally settled on the X5 since I was already using a few TonePrint pedals already. I also wasn’t concerned with an amp sim as use...

    Headphones Amp Question

I have a PJB Bass Buddy as well as a Vox amPlug. I use the Vox 99% of the time. The PJB sounds better, but not by much and certainly not $300 better. The Vox is cheap, sounds great, is small and super convenient. Highly recommend it (just us good headphones).

I hope you don't mind, but I generated a customizable report based upon you data. The two pages are identical, the tree maps are different. Data Analysis of TalkBass Sold Basses

Data Analysis of TalkBass Sold Basses

I do data analysis for a school district and find it incredibly fascinating. It’s crazy how seemingly complex stuff (sorry for the technical jargon) can be described in simple patterns. I used to teach math and would often show the NOVA video Hunting the Hidden Dimension. It’s a little dated and...

So maybe I have too many…

Problem is you have them all in one place. I have mine (27) stored in three different locations. This also works for amps, cabs and pedals.

    TC Infinite Sample Sustainer

I wouldn’t be surprised if they did add it. I’m very happy with the Plethora, especially since I can have multiple boards for different situations.

    TC Infinite Sample Sustainer

I picked up TC Plethora X5 last year in an effort to declutter my board. Decluttering hasn’t really worked out as planned at it just opens a space for another purchase. I still have an EHX Freeze on the board. If they just add this to the Plethora I can declutter a little more…

Let's See Your Unique/Rare Production Model Basses

My 1986 Fender Performer. Recorded with it back in 1987, but haven’t touched it since I picked up a 1979 Ric 4001 in 1988 (followed by 20ish other basses, but that’s another story). It actually recorded quite nicely. The first time we played the recording for a venue manager, his initial...
