Ok. Here is where I am now with it. Guitar center cleaned the pots. So static gone. Excellent. Bought some D'Addario pro steels. Much brighter deeper sound. Now to find time to really sit down and play. Thanks for your advice. Rick

Bought a five string Hamer cruise at guitar center. Been quite happy with it actually. However has some noise in the pots.
