Look / dress the part. Be a sponge (learn everything you can from the others). Unless you are ready to play a tune, turn your volume off or mute your rig. Don't be fret gazer. When you are playing, eye contact is important. Listen, practice, listen, practice, etc......

I find it's easier just to say nothing, ever, to anyone......but maybe people will think i'm making fun of those who don't have the ability to speak! Actually, i'd better stop typing for fear of upsetting people without hands. :-)

Just a thought.... The buyer stated that he had a similar strat, I would like to know how similar. Is he going to swap a couple of parts over and then return it? The guy does seem dumb but he also appears to know the return policy inside out, as if he's done this sort of thing before!

I usually rake with one finger then switch to another if I have to skip a string. e.g. I would rake from the G string to the D string using my middle finger, bring it to rest on the A string and then play the E string with my index finger. Hope that helps/makes sense!

progress update... I have watched the various videos and read many threads on floating thumb and have really made progress. My touch is lighter and more expressive, I am more comfortable playing for longer periods of time, no more awkward wrist angles and no more pain and my speed is not quite...

Thanks for the response! Certainly some food for thought there. I have been aiming to use the same technique as I have seen Alphonso Johnson use where the thumb "hangs down" as a mute and so far I find it very useful as long as there is another string to limit my finger movement but very strange...

I have been experimenting with floating thumb technique and I seem to have hit a bit of a wall. when I play the A, D & G strings, I lay my thumb against the other strings as a mute which also provides a bit of stability. But when playing the E string there is no string to lay the thumb against...

I used to like my P, then I got a Jazz and a few other basses. Now I love my P. (even though it smells of asparagus)

I believe the jack is there so you don't break it when you lean it against an amp/wall/sofa, etc... But i have been know to be wrong occasionally.

Maybe.....I have two but no amp or cab that uses them. I honestly have no idea where they came from.

Bits and pieces of equipment left on-stage are fair game. Don't expect your cable, duct tape, battery, etc... to be there at the end of the night if you forget to pack it away with your bass.
