Fender Precision Bass thread

While I disagree with gunkle, I don't find making a comparison to a great bass player relivent. Every player is unique, geddy lee plays a jazz. So why dosent everybody play a jazz then? I mean we all wouldn't mind playing like geddy right? Dosent really work that way.

I have a good idea. Here, we all agree the Precision bass is a good bass. I do believe a few people have misunderstood the "good" nature of this thread. Please, please go back to the beginning and re-read this entire thread! Then you will see why the P bass is a good bass.

True story: Last night, I won the auction on a brand new 2014 MIM Candy Apple Red Fender Precision. I had played it in a local music store recently. Last time I was in, I mentioned that they had sold their only P. It ends up the owner doesn't really like Precisions so he took it off the wall and sold it on eBay. Now they have about 28 or 29 basses left and almost all are Jazz style. Now, I have nothing against a Jazz bass; a Jazz bass is a fine bass.

I did get a good deal on a good bass. It is not a sight unseen purchase at all, since I had played it several times. I remember that from the moment I picked it up, I could feel that it was a good bass. Once more proving that a Precision is a good bass.:hyper:

I don't like being relentlessly cut down for having an
Opionon others disagree with.(that's really immiture) Stop being a jerk if you don't want me to call you on it.(ok your not the one who was doing that, but my points is still valid)
Come one man, this is a joke/troll/twinkle-in-the-eye thread not to be taken seriously. Either you're still not clued in on that, or you are intentionally and successfully counter-trolling. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and hope it is the latter. ;)

:rollno: Totally missed the point of this thread, dude. Fender Precision basses are good. :rollno:

can you read?! I specifically said they are great basses. I love everything about mine. It's not a great lead bass, that's all. Read the post man.:banghead:

No. I skipped that grade and went straight into EE. Do you mean Precision basses are not good, or do you just have absolutely no clue that this is a satirical thread?

And, as for your user I.D., those vacuum pumps are supposed to help in that department.:D

I need a six and Goodformetal: Either you two kids stop arguing or we are turning this thread around and going straight home, and NO ICE CREAM either.

We love you both, just be nice to each other.

Oh, and P basses are pretty good. I left mine out to have a staring contest with the sun yesterday to see. Around 8:30pm the P bass won.

So it's been a while since there was a thread dedicated to the Fender Precision bass. They are good basses. Do you also agree that they are good basses?

I have a USA P Bass and a MIM Deluxe J bass and they are both good instruments. Of the two the P Bass weighs less and is easier on the back and shoulders. The deluxe J has it's input jack on the bottom edge where the majority of basses I have seen have theirs. The P and other standard J basses all have the input on the front of the body.

This brings up a question. Why do Fender and other P and J bass type clones have the input jack on the top of the body instead of the side of the bass? Is there an advantage to having the jack on the front or is it to preserve the look of the originals?

To get back to the question of this link, yes I think that the P Bass is among the better basses out there. The look, sound, feel and overall vibe of the beast has a lot of history behind it. It's a keeper.

I believe the jack is there so you don't break it when you lean it against an amp/wall/sofa, etc... But i have been know to be wrong occasionally.
