the cabs in the piggy back models can be a weak link (depending on the speakers), true, but the Bassman 10 is a combo (50w into 4 10s) and the cabs are sealed up nicely and move some sound. And Flatwounds on a fender into it?!? Goosebumps!

+1: I'm a bit late here, but this is the story on this pedal. It really is cool, but I wouldn't suggest it for what you want either. If one is gonna be on all the time, I'd prolly look into getting 2 pedals. Isn't it more important to get the tones and sounds you want than to have it...

Find a 70s Fender Bassman 10 to try if you can - they aren't as hard as you might think to come by: there are 2 here in raleigh for sale ($700ish). They are great, simple amps that deliver quite a bit of sound for 50w. Of course a b15 would probably look the part and sound awesome too!
