    Do Stainless rotosounds stay sticky?

Respectfully of course, I disagree. If you think they sound best, stick it out. I started using Swing Bass 66 strings about 9 years ago. At first they felt a little rough, but my hands got used to it. I had tried a ton of strings and the rotosounds sounded much better so I stuck with them...

    Combo Amp Suggestions

the cabs in the piggy back models can be a weak link (depending on the speakers), true, but the Bassman 10 is a combo (50w into 4 10s) and the cabs are sealed up nicely and move some sound. And Flatwounds on a fender into it?!? Goosebumps!

    Boost function in Fulltone Bassdrive

+1: I'm a bit late here, but this is the story on this pedal. It really is cool, but I wouldn't suggest it for what you want either. If one is gonna be on all the time, I'd prolly look into getting 2 pedals. Isn't it more important to get the tones and sounds you want than to have it...

    Combo Amp Suggestions

Find a 70s Fender Bassman 10 to try if you can - they aren't as hard as you might think to come by: there are 2 here in raleigh for sale ($700ish). They are great, simple amps that deliver quite a bit of sound for 50w. Of course a b15 would probably look the part and sound awesome too!

    New Old Stock Tubes

Unfortunately, almost all of the info on the interwebs about New Old Stock (NOS) tubes is written by and for guitarists. Because we as bassists have different needs and expectations of our tubes I'd like to see if those with experience with NOS tubes could help each other out. I'm...

Can a 6550 always be subed for a 6L6 as long as the amp is biased right?

This is entirely correct, as I just looked into doing the same thing with my 68 bassman amp for more clean power. The 6550s will fit and may work for quite a while, but will be deriving WAY more power than your transformer can handle over the long haul. I ended up buying NOS tubes that would...

Are solid state amps inherently superior to tube amps for bass?

this may be the smartest thing ever written about amps in general. That said, I'll take my chances with tube amps any day - but I play in a rock band and I'm obsessed with tubes (I'm even using a tube DI). Any amp aficionado will tell you that there are a bunch of great SS amps too.

Booster pedal, which one do you use/like?

There are 3 pedals I absolutely love. The El Grande bass fuzz by MXR for nasty raunchiness - it doesn't lose low end and has a customizable deep switch built in. This effect is not subtle, though. It's loud awesome fuzz. The MK 4.23 by Creation Audio Labs is a 100% clean boost that...
