my teacher has been giving me reading exercises that are completely atonal, out of a book he got when he was at M.I. Does anybody know of a collection of reading exercises that is just purely random notes, that's still in print, or any other good reading curricula?

well, it's more complicated than that. you'll want to look into specific players first, and hear how they play the lines. ray brown is the master of walking bass, so anything with him on bass is a go, just look him up. then, start with easy songs, like autumn leaves or take the 'a' train, and...

i've just picked up the matt garrison technique, but i mostly use the thumb and 2 fingers instead of the thumb and 3. what are some good exercises to vary finger usage, multiple strings, use of syncopated dead notes, et cetera to really get this thing nailed down? it's a super flexible...
