Official Squier VM Jaguar Special (Long-Scale) Club

My original post was indeed incorrect (sorry! - it's been a few (5+) years since I had that bass opened up to install DiMarzio PUPs and remove the bass boost preamp). Can you provide a photo of the existing jack? I recall that the yellow wire feeds the tip, the negative wire from the battery...

Not sure what a "Fender price" is, but for less than $20 bucks (and no shipping) you can get a Squier replacement part... 009-1265-000 Squier by Fender Jaguar Bass Jack & Control Plate with Screws | Reverb This is indeed a tip-ring-sleeve connector. Bill Wyman's gear

According To Bill's book, "A Stone Alone", he played (overdubbed to my ears) six string bass on the songs Pain In My Heart and Down Home Girl. I've seen no pictures of him with the instrument, which is cited as a Fender Bass VI in The Rolling Stones: All The Songs by Philippe Margotin and...

Squier Jaguar Short Scale Club Part 3

Thanks for responding edsand - Definitely not a show-stopper, as I love the sound of the bass and it's play-ability. Given the fact that one PUP is hotter than the other means that I can get an even balance between the two when desired, which is why I'm leaning so heavily towards a...

Squier Jaguar Short Scale Club Part 3

I'm hoping for a little consensus (as opposed to nonsensus) regarding the various solutions/mitigations of the"scoop/volume drop" that occurs when both PUPs are at max volume. While I actually have a Long Scale VM Modified bass, I have removed the active bass boost and now have the identical...

Thanks for responding. I am using 500k pots, both because of DiMarzio's recommendation as a match to their hum-bucking PJ PUPs, and because I prefer the reduced hi frequency loss of 500k pots. I have the volume pots wired in stock "Jazz bass" mode, with the PUP hot leads feeding the wiper of the...

So I'm hoping for a little consensus (as opposed to nonsensus) regarding the various solutions/mitigations of the"scoop/volume drop" that occurs when both PUPs are at max volume. I have a set of DiMarzio DP126 PJ PUPs installed now . I experienced the same issues with the original Squier PUPS...

    Fender JP 90 club?

The demons have been exorcised!!! I replaced the stock PUP with a DiMarzio Ultra J Bass bridge pickup (hum & noise is GONE!), while keeping the original P-Bass PUP. I replaced the original POS "import" volume & tone controls with a a Bourns 500/500k pan pot feeding an Alpha dual concentric...

2 of the 3 replacement control plates that I have built and installed utilized stock Fender Jazz Bass control plates. They were drop in replacements for the original Squire plate. I also bought a plastic tortoise shell import control plate that also worked with no mods required.

FWIW, having done a couple control plate mods/replacements on my 2011 VM Jag (I really should spend more time playing and less time modding :D), I can respond to this and a couple of your previous questions. The control cavity at the end closest to the input jack narrows, and (without routing it...

    Fender JP 90 club?

As they say..."Don't believe everything you read" ("trust, but verify"). I opened up the bass and discovered two "import quality" 250k mini pots and a 0.068 uF mylar cap, not the dual 500k pots shown in the manual. The pots were crudely soldered, and the harness (including the pickups) utilized...

    Fender JP 90 club?

I am in the initial stages of resolving a VERY noisy bridge pickup problem in a friend's JP-90 (I initially did a complete foil shielding of the bass, but the bridge pickup still squealed and buzzed like a bee on crystal meth). As part of doing the "homework" on the bass for round 2, I obtained...

Question about Dimarzio style Jazz humbuckers (model J) and tone caps/pots

I added the Dimarzio DP126 "noiseless" set to my Squier Jaguar VM Special (long scale) bass (which includes their "Model J" PUP, and reached out to DiMarzio tech support for volume & tone pot value recommendations. They recommended 500K of the vol pots & 250K for the tone pot. I installed same...
