What makes a "comfortable" bass guitar?

I hear ya, and thats the danger about trying to run a numbers game on something as subjective as the "feel" of a bass. I'm hoping to try out the couple of basses on my current wishlist. Then I'll just commit to one. Its my first bass, and I want to jump into playing. I can correct my mistakes...

What makes a "comfortable" bass guitar?

There's a lot to think about here. I've got a few in mind that seem like promising first basses, and fit the "Ray 4" specs that play well for me. Right now I'm looking at the Schecter Omen Extreme-4 and the Ibanez SR400QM as top contenders. I really like the look of the Ibanez SR700, though I'm...

What makes a "comfortable" bass guitar?

Its a possibility. I'd really rather not start with a 5 string bass, though, and the nut width on the 4-string version is a bit bigger than I'm shooting for. I'll keep an eye out for them in GC, though.

What makes a "comfortable" bass guitar?

Continuing the search for a good starter bass, I've put a lot of thought into this. Right now, the most comfortable bass I've played is the Ray 4. I like the feel of it a lot, but I'm not crazy about the hardware and the fact that its a single pickup. I don't have a lot of local options for...

Ibanez SR 700 vs. ESP LTD B-4E

Latest update: Sweetwater seems to have discontinued the SR700 discount. It doesn't put it out of range for me, but in the upper range. I'm seeing a few reviews of the LTD B-4E's that point towards manufacturing defects. They look cool in pictures, and the B-5E I was able to see in person...

Ibanez SR 700 vs. ESP LTD B-4E

Thanks, everyone. Its been a hell of a search, and I've gotten to try some basses. No one bass has felt "right" so far, but some of that may be down to the set up. I'll have to pick one up at some point, just to keep the momentum going, and continue the quest.

Ibanez SR 700 vs. ESP LTD B-4E

Right now the SR700 is the same price as the LTD B-4E. Normally its a couple hundred more. I seem to be hearing mixed reviews about the 700's build quality, though, and I'm not sure if its coming down in price to what it should cost, or is well below its actual value.

Ibanez SR 700 vs. ESP LTD B-4E

Thanks. Hopefully soon I'll be posting shiny new bass pictures. I'm still chasing down an Aerodyne. I keep hearing how nice that bass plays, so I'm looking forward to giving it a go. The local guitar center has a decent rotating selection, and we have a few indie stores as well. But I'll pull...

Ibanez SR 700 vs. ESP LTD B-4E

I'm in the market for my first bass, and I'm a little overwhelmed. I've done a bunch of investigation and discovered that in the range I'm shopping for, there are no clear winners that are head and shoulders above the rest, objectively. And as I'm a new player, my subjectivity has yet to...

    Salutations from upstate NY

Thanks! I've got a friend who's into guitars, and his recollection is that Cort isn't the best brand name. But that bass seems pretty well reviewed. I'd like to get my hands on one before I buy it, so I can try it out. There's a lot of value in the used market, from what I'm seeing.

    A solid beginning

Some great advice here. Thanks, everyone. I'm slowly learning that, at least in my neck of the woods, beginning bassists get the shaft at music stores. There's limited space and not much profit to the low-end bass market, so most stores have a wall of new and used guitars and a few basses...

    NBD: Cort A5

That looks sharp! I've been keeping my eye out on ebay for the A4, preferably the cherry one. There's currently an auction for one that's reasonably cheap. But, looking at the pictures, the tuners aren't branded hipshot and the it doesn't have a selector switch. So its either a knockoff or an...

    Salutations from upstate NY

Technically, I'm not a bassist yet. I picked up the guitar after a long hiatus about eight months ago. I got a decent beginner guitar that I bought over the internet, mostly because it looked cool, and I liked the company. My guitar was made by Monoprice, who is known for reasonably priced...
