I've used hockey tape on slippery guitars and basses, works good but you may have to replace if the tape slides off which hasn't happened yet just little parts of it start to fall but stay on

I find setting the bass on my left leg on a diagonal angle and picking close to parallel with the strings works for being the most comfortable with good distance playability. Just my personal experience

Why would a blend noble kill the tone? My impression was you can just mix the overdrive with the clean tone and if the pedal doesn't ruin the low end when using overdrive how would the blend ruin it?

That sounds like a great practice routine, I try to practice every night I'm just crappy at actually getting threw a bunch of noted practice goals and usually end up sticking to one or two practice topics
