    Need Neck/Headstock Repair referral...

Ugh. I have a bass that sustained damage to the headstock and neck. Stupid me, put a soft case with a Chinese version of the Warwick 2005-ish Jack Bruce bass on a guitar shelf occupied by nothing but square fender style cases. It was firmly wedged in there but something happened and when I got...

80s Albums Many of Us Have Never Heard But Are Worth Checking Out

Ifn you want to hear some REAL great bass playing from Eric Avery in Janes Addiction, bypass all commercial releases and go straight to their inde album XXX. It rocks and has none of the void that commercial Janes albums have.

80s Albums Many of Us Have Never Heard But Are Worth Checking Out

DFX2 Emotion. 5 song ep with strong new wavy flavored blues rock. First release was 1982 I think and then re-released 1984. Gets me moving every time I hear it. All five songs are gems. also, ABC’s sophomore effort BEAUTY STAB. Filled with guitars as it’s predecessor was a synth album.

THIS is what the live music biz is REALLY like today.

Paying to play was very prevalent in Houston, Texas, at non-union gigs, in the 80s and 90s. I stopped playing at those pay to play clubs long ago. Good luck. The models have all changed.

    Band Member Won't Commit

Lol. Reminds me of bands past. 20 years ago, I hooked up with a talented band. Great players. Great singer. It was clear that the guitarist had a thing for the female singer. Great originals and well arranged covers. I was the drummer in this outfit. The bassist and I were the only folks that...

How are Pink Floyd considered PROG rock?

I have to disagree on virtuosity. Gilmour has hundreds of thousands of guitarists wanting to play like him because he is a virtuoso. Likewise with the late, great Rick Wright. Now, as a drummer first and bassist second, I know I can play everything Mason ever has and most of what Waters has...

Th Official Fender Musicmaster Bass Club

That's very true. I'm 5'8" and have what a glove size of large. I shoot handguns with larger grips just fine. So I don't suffer from "small hand syndrome". The stock finger rest upper pickguard position, as placed on my '73 Musicmaster, was at age 13 and still is some 49 years later in the...

What bass-related Christmas present would you get yourself?

I did give a good friend my old metronome, the wind up kind that is accurate, that I got when I began on drums in 1971. Still working, high quality piece of gear. Has the swinging arm and tempo adjusts by sliding a metal deal up and down the pendulum arm. Works great. It's already improved his...

    Phil Jones Bass Nanobass X4

I managed to get one from a friend who has overseas contacts in Japan. For the msrp. I'm pleased with it. Very pleased, as a matter of fact. Obviously, you can't gig with it, and no, it won't keep up with a live drummer (or loud guitarist or vocalist for that matter). I have several bass amps...

    Ok, music retirement is over

I also think there are plenty of women our age and around our age who have the same aspirations as you. I’m pretty sure there are people that will accept you as you are. Good vibes Jimmy! I’ll add that after gigging steadily since 18, as a cop, through college and law school while working full...
