    Underappreciated Bassists in famous bands

    Robert DeLeo comes to mind. Fantastic bassist and songwriter, pulling equally from jazz, motown, and progressive rock for his bass parts, while doing killer backing vocals, yet I find him slept on, even in bass circles.

    Alternatives to Rumble 500

    What style(s) are you playing? I know these are all pretty solid choices. Possibly a Phil Jones BG100? Im planning on getting one for rehearsals and home practice, but I know it can hang in most ensembles.

    Well, why not both? Considering what options we have at our fingertips today, im seeing more hip session guys and hired guns playing 5 and strings. Also looking at NAMM footage from this year, this looks like the year of 6 string bass.

    I started on 4, played my friend's 5 string out of neccesity, i ended up liking the extra range and fingerings at my disposal, then got my first 6 and haven't looked back. I may get a 4 and a 5 down the road, but I'm more interested in extended range basses to be honest, and really fewer strings...
