    Slapping questions

@enricogaletta That looks like it would be a great way to warm up. I'll try it later today.

    Slapping questions

Thanks for the replies everyone. It sounds like slapping is something that takes a lot of practice. That's kind of reassuring to know it's not just me and I just need to keep practicing.

    Slapping questions

I've been trying to learn slapping for the past month or so. I feel like the technique is pretty comfortable but I continue to have a problem with accuracy, my thumb just misses the string. I can tell it's improved but progress is so slow it's frustrating. I assume this is normal and I just need...

    In defense of appreciation...

Here's my opinion, for what it's worth. I happen to be a fan of budget basses because, for less than the price of a MiM Fender, I went to the used music store and bought everything I needed to get started playing bass. If I had to spend more money than that I probable never would have started...

Would "toilet paper" have been your first hoarding choice?

I don't actually need toilet paper right now but the local grocery store hasn't had a single roll in a week. I'm starting to worry that when I do run out there won't be any to buy. Stupid hoarders. Is it that hard to leave some for somebody else? It makes me wonder where these hoarders are...

What makes a great Blues bass player.?

Wait... For real? I've heard of people who don't cook but a bowl of cereal?

    Song book recommendations?

Thanks for the replies. I'm not sure of a particular genre, kind of rock/blues/jazz/funk type stuff that's fun to play and at an appropriate level. I know that's not very well defined but I've spent most of my time so far working out of lesson books and would like to start learning more songs...

    Song book recommendations?

Can you all recommend any good beginner/intermediate song books? Something that has like "standards" that every bass player might be expected to know? I did get a couple of the Easy Pop Bass lines from Hal Leonard but they're a little frustrating because I've come to realize those are...

    Christmas music

Can anyone point the way to some intermediate Christmas music for solo bass? I thought it would be fun to learn a couple Christmas songs. I have a very beginner book that just shows the melody but I was hoping to find something a little fancier. I also found a couple things on YouTube that are...

    Pull-offs help?

Thanks for all advice. The point about it being subtle sounds right to me. Sometimes it comes out better than others and I'm still figuring out what the difference is.

    Pull-offs help?

Thanks for the suggestions. The technique in the video is different from what I was shown. That might be problematic as my bass teacher will want me to do it the way he describes.

    Pull-offs help?

Do you have any tips for pull-offs? I can't seem to get any volume from them. If I try to hard to pluck it gets sloppy and if I don't it comes out really quiet. I haven't actually been working on it for long but it's frustrating when you try to play something and no sounds comes out.

Pieces of music that absolutely stunned you.

So here's my play list based on this thread. I haven't done the share playlist thing before so hopefully it works out. I might have missed a couple but most of the YouTube selections. I figure it's a good start. Talk Bass Favorites - YouTube

Now I feel obliged to finish it. It won't have every entry but most of the YouTube ones will be there.
