Why Don't Ernie Ball Offer This Pickup Config Option: The P 'Ray Bass.

It's difficult to choose an option in the poll because, just like the slant of the Stratocaster's bridge pickup, the position of the P's coils would seem to make more sense reversed where the boominess of the lower strings and sharpness of the higher strings are "neutralised" rather than...

    Play Bass With the Beatles

Thanks for all the replies, appreciate them a lot. It's a shame to hear there's a lot of errors in the Complete Scores. Makes me think there could be perhaps even more in the "Play With" book. Errors would actually be a big turn-off for me since I don't particularly want to play along with the...

    Play Bass With the Beatles

This is a book available which has written bass parts and a CD with backing tracks to play along with. Does anyone know if the bass parts in the book are note-for-note transcripts of McCartney's actual bass lines or have they been written specifically for the book as lines that fit with Beatles...

Coil Tap Switch and Series Switch

Thanks. So, looking at it and trying to work it out, it seems that the tapped and full wires go into the switch and the output wires from that would then just be treated like the hot wires from normal J pickups?

Coil Tap Switch and Series Switch

I have attached the wiring diagram for the Schecter Diamond J bass which includes a coil tap switch. Would it be possible to add a second push-pull switch and wire it so that there's a series/parallel switch but also keeping the coil tap switch working as normal?

P Bass cavity shielding in copper foil (image hvy)

By that, do you mean that in practice either paint or copper foil will do a good job of shielding or do you mean that in reality, no kind of shielding will make that much of a difference?

    Schecter Diamond J Wiring

Thanks mate but I've worked it all out. The yellow is the earth, bare is the shielding, white is the hot and red is a coil tap. The tone pot (with attached switch) that came with mine has always been crackly and wouldn't clean up with electrical cleaner so I've temporarily just wired it up like...

Thanks for your help bud, appreciate it

    Schecter Diamond J Wiring

Think I've confused it by the way I've drawn it. Is it the ones wired closest to the pot itself or the ones wired furthest away that would be the hot?

    Schecter Diamond J Wiring

One more thing you may be able to help me with; given that the pickups are non-tapped when the switch is down and tapped when the switch is pulled, am I right to assume that the whites are the hot and the reds are the tap?

    Schecter Diamond J Wiring

Thank you for that! Really appreciate it. The fact that most of the internet mistakenly use the term "coil tap" when they mean "coil split" makes this hard to Google lol

    Schecter Diamond J Wiring

The reason I thought it was a phase switch is because their tech support told me that when I emailed them but the more I look at the wiring diagram the more I'm convinced there is no phase switching and it's actually a coil tap (not coil split, an actual tap). I think that yellow and bare are...

    Schecter Diamond J Wiring

I'm hoping someone will be able to help me figure out the wiring scheme for the Diamond J bass. The bass has a phase switch and each pickup has 4 wires; those are the 2 things confusing me. I've drawn up a diagram of how it's wired: Could anyone tell me what the yellow and bare wires are...

What to Look For When Buying MiM Fender

Can't wait to try these out. I'm surprised there's quite a big price difference between the Standard and Classic if the differences are just preference rather than the Classic being objectively better in any way. Obviously I'll be hoping I prefer the Standard to save money, just hope that...
