Thanks a lot of all the feedback guys! It's greatly appreciated and confirming my impression that this is a great way to play soft songs. Now would someone happen to know if this technique has a more formal name maybe? If find the title of the thread to be a bit of a mouthful, but couldn't...

Resting plucking hand's thumb on fretboard side

Thanks for your response, well I'm glad you also noticed the issue with fast songs too, as I was wondering if I should insist..! I might, but if you also feel like it's a bit unnatural, then I know I'm not imagining it... Still, I find the pleasure I now experience of playing slow songs has...

Resting plucking hand's thumb on fretboard side

Hi all, Lately I've been experiencing with this technique (it may have a more formal name I don't know of!). I basically put my thumb for the plucking hand on the side of the fretboard, instead of making it rest on one of the pick-ups. With the angle my hand forms, I end up plucking the...

Hi all! I just bought new strings and decided to change the strings myself for once, I usually bring it to a store so they can adjust my action as low as possible (I'm not an expert...). A pro friend of mine recommended the ernie ball super slinky (pink - 45 to 100) since I have problems...

    fretting hand/fingers angle

Hi all! I apologize if this' been asked before but a quick search on "fretting angle" was not very fruitful. Ideally I'd create a poll with various angles (in degrees) but I'm not sure how to go about it here... So i'm just trying out a new way to play, whereby i try to hit the strings at...

Time to tell the truth: how much does your bass weigh?

histogram based on Pilgrim's excel file (used gnuplot). as one may expect, it's roughly a normal distribution centered around 9-ish (sample is a bit small though)

strength in fretting/plucking fingers (both hands)

That's a really useful answer, kind of what I was expecting. That 'grip of death' is a real problem of mine., I guess working on independence of strength in fingers of each hands is the key here. Thanks!

strength in fretting/plucking fingers (both hands)

Hi farceol, thanks for the response. But do you have any suggestions in order to make it sound a bit more energetic? i kinda have the feeling that fretting hand should always be soft, but if i pluck hard with the right one then the fretting fingers don't hold the note properly anymore..

strength in fretting/plucking fingers (both hands)

Hi everyone I have a bit of a problem deciding what's a good combination of strength to apply in each fingers (for both hands). Surely there is not only 1 way to go but I can't seem to find the right balance here. I find that using the minium strength in the fretting fingers helps a lot...

    prevent other strings from vibrating

Wow, so many responses in so little time! You guys are awesome :hyper: Although how the **** did you end up talking about bagpipes?!! :eyebrow: Anyways, all the testimonies gave me a good idea of what's available. It's crazy how differently people play, and we're pretty far from the theory...

    prevent other strings from vibrating

Hi everyone! I'm a self-teaching player :bassist: and i'm doing alright so far except for one thing :eyebrow: : how do one keep the strings you're not playing from vibrating (when accidentally touching them). It usually happens with the strings lower than the one I'm playing on. Should I: 1-...
