I'm looking to replace the pickups on my Geddy Lee Signature J Bass. Any suggestions?

How many people are using "signature series" gear?

I have a Geddy Lee Signature J Bass. Sounds great for everything from Grand Funk to Johnny Cash, and has a neck that's very comfortable for my small fingers.

VERY Interesting article on the Guitar's Demise.....

My local Guitar Center used to be mobbed, especially on weekends. Now it's almost a ghost town. They have expanded to include stuff like DJ equipment, but I don't see that selling, either. The same can be said about any of the New York City music stores I've visited, save for a few high-end...

    Pickup replacements for fretless J-Bass

I like the Jaco tone, but my goal is to sound as much as I can like an upright.

    Pickup replacements for fretless J-Bass

I have a low-end fretless Fender J- Bass and am thinking of upgrading the pickups in order to improve the sound. There are many different models of J pickups, and the only ones I'm familiar with are the ones that came with my bass, and Seymour Duncan. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Double Bass Good Place to Rent/Buy an Upright in NY City

I'm new to upright, and am looking for a good, reasonable shop where I can rent, and eventually buy, an instrument. Mostly I want to play stuff like blues and rockabilly, and my budget is limited. So far I have been to David Gage. Are there any other recommendations? Thanks.

Double Bass Needed: A Good Intro Book on Rockabilly Bass

I've been playing bass guitar for over 30 years, and will be getting my first upright in a few weeks. My interests involve mostly rockabilly, country, and blues. Can anybody recommend a good book/cd combination or video introduction to rockabilly bass? Thanks.

Double Bass Needed: A Good Intro Book for Upright Bass

I've been playing bass guitar for years, but will soon be getting an upright. Mostly I intend to play some blues, rockabilly and country. Any suggestions on good books that could help get me started? Thanks.

I can play Bass but I can't play Guitar

I never really learned guitar, beyond a few basic folk chords. One reason I took up bass as a kid was because there were a zillion guitarists out there, and I knew I had a better chance at getting into a band if I could master that Hofner my parents bought me. Later on I studied cello for...

Making my J Bass a fretless

Thanks, zfunkman. I think I'm going to just have a techie pull the frets and do the job. Don't have a lot of money for a new neck, and the bass only cost me about $400 to begin with.

Making my J Bass a fretless

Thanks, everyone. Price is an issue for me. Which option do you think is cheapest? 1. New neck. 2. Get the present neck de-fretted. 3. Get a new cheap fretless. I was intrigued by the Rondo short-scale fretless. Does anyone else have experience with it? I have a short-scale...

Making my J Bass a fretless

I have a Fender Jazz Bass (one of the made in Mexico models) that I don't play much anymore. Was thinking of taking it to a technician and asking them to pull the frets and make a fretless out of it. Figured it's cheaper than buying a whole new instrument. Does anyone have any experience...
