    My bass curse

AFAIK his main bass, a 62 Precision in sunburst was only stolen shortly before his untimely demise. Both Jaco and Jamerson got their main basses stolen shortly before their death. I hope three decades is long enough to get through a thick poly-finish. ;)

    My bass curse

Absolutely, I think that's what it's all about. Becoming one with the instrument, as woo woo as that may sound. In terms of comfort and playability, for me, nothing beats a Jazz with a somewhat flat neck profile, but I've read about the Ibanez SRH500F that it has a very Jazz-ish neck. I might...

@lug According to that article my lost Jazz would have been made by Tokai (1999 CIJ) then and not FujiGen, interesting. @el murdoque Good point, I thought about this too. Was Jaco's Bass of Doom really that great or was it his playing? Would Jamerson's Funk Machine still have been the Funk...

    My bass curse

@Malak the Mad That jade green metallic jazz is really soomething else... very tasty. Unfortunately, we only a have a hand full of bigger stores in Germany and then a few smaller ones here and there with mostly meager selection, but if I take the trip to Thomann, I might aswell stop by some...

@vokain Amen! Hope he still lives in the same spot, it's been 7 years.

Right, maybe he'll break down in tears and send it back for free.

    My bass curse

I remember him being super stoked when he got it in the mail. If he's not as dumb as me, he'll surely never let go of it. Still could write a nice letter, maybe there's room for negotiation.

    My bass curse

@Geogio I've never tried one personally, but many say that the older Tokai's are better than what Fender did at the time. They sell for good money these days. Definitely looks like something else. I think they knew exactly what they were doing. The japanese are magicians when it comes to woodwork!

    My bass curse

Good idea, I actually found his name and address. Now I only need a ski mask and a crowbar.. :ninja: That thing would break my back. I definitely have respect for players who can handle beasts like that.

Btw, I still have pictures from when I was putting it up for sale and the middle piece of the body had a really interesting grain, never seen that on any other bass. I think the guys over in japan pulled something special out of their secret wood storage for this one.

    My bass curse

One of the downsides to living in the middle of nowhere is, there are basically no real music stores here. There is one in the next bigger city, but they're of the kind that has everything a guitarist could ever dream of and then a few Squiers and Fenders, not much to choose from. But I thought...

    My bass curse

I used to have this late 90's japanese Fender Jazz... sunburst, tort, slim neck, golden spaghetti logo, chrome covers, a real looker. Bought it for like 850€ on what's basically craigslist here. According to the previous owner, it was a special non-export run, made in the Fujigen plant and he...

    Slots in zero fret

Didn't know those existed, pretty cool. Turned out the slots of the A and D-string where already sufficiently deep, so I only filed the E and G-slots with improvised files (long, rounded object + sandpaper) and it turned out pretty well.

    Slots in zero fret

Sandberg actually also does this as I've read today and their basses are rather expensive. My guess is, it's a lot easier to get the depth just right for each string that way, but then why not just use a regular nut... not sure.

    Slots in zero fret

Cool, definitely easier than filing the whole thing down and bringing it back to shine!
