Fingers getting hurt by the strings?

The first few months I played I developed blistors as well. Your fingers will get use to it with time.

    Learning scales

This whole thread is really confusing me on what I thought an arpeggio is/was. Lets say I'm jamming with a guitarist and he is playing a Amaj chord. I usually outline the chord by playing a bass line with the A major arpeggio, A-C-E notes to make it more "pretty." Is this wrong? What am I...

Bassists who are lefties who play righty club.

You guys are nuts! I'm left handed, but do everything but write with my right hand. I tried learning on a right handed instrument in the beginning and it just wouldn't take. As soon as I got a lefty that all changed and became so much easier. A part of me wishes I powered through and stuck with...

The official "Show your basses" thread part 17!

As a left handed bassist with limited choices, I would like to say I'm very jealous. *leaves thread* :bawl:

Blues Bass. What Makes it Good?

I'm mostly a rock guy, but I have to admit I hate playing rock music on bass. Some reason I love playing blues and funk music though. The bass is the backbone of all music, but lets be serious here, more so for those two genres.

am i making progress for 1 year?

I think you should SLOW DOWN. I've been playing for about as long as you, but played guitar for a long time before this. I understand you want to just go balls deep, but that can create bad habits and sloppy technique. Work on easier things first and like someone said above; use a metronome...

    Music reading/position playing

Well I pulled out my old Hal Leonard Bass method books. From reading around Ed says that a lot of music can be played in multiple positions. I tested this out, but found myself shifting a lot for higher notes on the G string. I may try the "moveable position" approach since I wouldn't have to...

    So, Is Schecter CRAP?

Schectors are good quality basses. I see a lot of Fender elitism, but believe it or not there are other brands with just as good quality. My friend has had the same Schector bass for years, it is truly sleek looking and the ton is amazing.

    Music reading/position playing

I get what all of you are saying, but the longer I play the more I notice things. Lets say I need to play a C note that's on a ledger line, I have a few options here; 1. I could play it on the D string, 10th fret, or I could simply play it on the G string, 5th fret. According to sheet music...

    Music reading/position playing

Hey guys, I've been wondering something for a little while now; Lets say a key signature tells you a song is in A major, but the sheet music doesn't clarify a position to play it in(which is most of the time), how do you decide where to play it? I always lean towards playing in lower positions...

    Are mikro basses frowned upon?

I don't believe it's a medical issue, I'm only 28 years old. It possibly could have something to do with me switching between guitar and bass. The stretching involved is noticeable. It's why I'm looking into mikros as well, I figure there closer to a guitar size.

    Are mikro basses frowned upon?

Hello all! I've been playing guitar for 13+ years now, but the last year or so I've really got into bass playing. I find it kind of uncomfortable and if I play for long periods of time my wrist/hands begin to ache. I started searching around for a solution and I keep hearing about mikro basses...

Why Do I Not Want To Practice?

I would say because a practice routine is boring and repetitive. LETS BE SERIOUS HERE. It's not fun at all to play scales up and down the neck. What can change your practice routine is to make it musical. I also chop my "routine" into little blocks with the time varying for each depending on the...

BEST WAY TO MASTER FRETBOARD NOTES

Reading music has really helped me learn the fretboard. Also, practicing scales in every key and calling out each note.
