    Paul McCartney and his Basses

You are right about George. The lead guitar lines was often - if not always - done as overdubs around 1967. So it might be so, that George experienced less time spent recording Sgt. Pepper - compared to the other three... Don't know - but you are right about GH's playing on the songs mentioned -...

    Paul McCartney and his Basses

Oh yes... Ringo clearly plays a Hammond on "I'm looking through you" - and it's even easy to hear: The two Ab-chords (lasting each a quarternote) introducing the four times repeatet riff between verses is the Hammond. The two organ chords says "doot-doot" - and Georges guitar finishes the riff...

By the way... it's a quite pretty shape...

    Violin bass...hmm..but it's not a violin shape!

Yes... except they gave it the shape of a gamba - not a violin. The EB-1 is a sort of cross between a scaled down double bass and a violin

I guess Paul told you himself...??? Well not that Paul of course - Paul in the little room next to yours ;)

    Violin bass...hmm..but it's not a violin shape!

I've checked with the "Hofner, The complete Violin Bass Story" - and there are a few early officially Hofner advertisments (pages 98, 205, and 264) shown in the book using the term "violin bass". But even so, the term "Beatle Bass" is much more commonly used after 1965. The term "violin bass" is...

    Violin bass...hmm..but it's not a violin shape!

Wonder why the nice old Hofner 500/1 is called a "violin bass"... Because it's not a violin shape at all. If anything near it, it's a scaled down double bass outline... but even so it not a double bass of classic violin design - but a gamba - which is a frettet renaissance instrument played...

Short Scale Guys: What's your dream bass?

I grew up with The Beatles and was born three years before Hofner in Bubenreuth gave the world the violin bass... so I stick to that fellow.

New Hofner 500/1 CT violin bass model?

Hmmm... Yes.. but Hofner in Germany should know, shouldn't they? The moment he told me I actually thought it was a bit strange as the 500/1 CT is already quite vintage like. He described it as having a "good feel" - so maybe there can be some misunderstandings because of maybe a thinner, more...

New Hofner 500/1 CT violin bass model?

Hmmm... my problem is now, that the store owner I refered to had already tried this CT called "vintage"... We had a chat about a lefthanded CT he had in the his store, and I told him I'd like another CT - and he told me about this new "vintage" - and he even mentioned a retail price (close to...

New Hofner 500/1 CT violin bass model?

Thank you, that's grreat ;) The only differences I can think of compared to the "normal" CT would be tea cups, white switches and German pick guard/panel in slightly more colored celluloid... All other details are already "vintage" as far as I can see...

New Hofner 500/1 CT violin bass model?

Two days ago I paid a visit to "my" music store and had a litte chat with the boss... and he told me that a new violin bass model is on it's way from Höfner China: 500/1 CT "Vintage"... It should be priced close to the "standard" VB CT- but he wasn't aware of any particular detailes - except...

What do we think of the Hofner Ignition and CT?

I'm with Harper... Ignitions are nowhere near German and CT's when it comes to quality. And when it comes to sound... I don't relly know. Because of the lack of build quality I immediately bought a CT - but I still got the Ignition... and for the body shapes I only know, that the German bodies...
