Did you shield the inside of the pickup covers? It's a bit of a pain to do but can help a lot.

If the hum gets worse when you touch the strings, it's a grounding issue. If the hum gets better when you touch the strings, it's a shielding issue.

I think you're trying to adjust the wrong end. Check the body under the pickguard.

I believe it's only the balance control that needs to be different for the X series pickups. The volume and tone knobs appear to be the same.

A quick Google tells me this bass was made in South Korea. Assuming this factory used a convention that's common to a lot of Asian-made instruments, the E probably corresponds to the factory and the 10 suggests it was made in 2010.
