I keep a U-Bass in my vehicle for any gig, simply as a backup. I have had upright basses explode a bridge, necks come loose during a gig. It's a bad feeling to be unable to play.

I find it's all in the amp and EQ. I play a1968 Mustang, a Squire Jaguar, a Taylor GS mini e bass, a Kay upright. The Taylor is a tone monster, and by far my favorite to play on stage. I run it thru an Acoustic Image Contra amp, with Fishman Platinum Pro DI.

It is not the dots changing it is your bridge. Adjust it and all will be fine.

I play that environment all the time. I have a Taylor GS Mini bass and use the Acoustic Image Contra with a Fishman Platinum Pro pre. Small, lightweight and killer sound.
