    Which bass would you recommend?

One thing to check too is the pickup height on the P bass. Having the pickups closer to the strings gives it more punch and tone that cuts through, whereas further away sounds dull and weak that can get lost in the mix.

Who Has a Bass No One Else on this Board Has?? (Part 3)

Here's one I built up for my son. It's a tung oil finished walnut body matched with parts from a MIM Jazz 5.

Would love to have one, but assume they're pricey.

    Pick guard painting

The best way is to paint the inside surface of the clear pickguard. That doesn't help with your white one.

Geddy Jazz Poll - Resonance Question

Somethings to check: - Is there a shim in the neck pocket? If you can get it setup to play well without a shim that can help. Make sure the neck is sitting snug and against the bottom of the neck pocket. - If you have significant forward neck bow, try tightening the truss rod to get it close...

    Truss rod experience

I like setting up my guitar and bass necks vary flat. One thing I noticed is I can get the necks pretty close to flat, but at some point the truss rod just will not turn any further. Even thought all manufactures indicate you can get a back bow by tightening, I've never experienced it no...

    Unique Rosewood Fingerboard

It looks like it may be Pau Ferro and not rosewood, but it's hard to be absolutely certain as both wood varies. I have Pau Ferro on one bass and it looks alot like yours. It's a very nice wood. Pau Ferro is on several models of MIM Jazz basses. Here's some photo of Pau Ferro from around the...

    Analogue Vs. Digital

Line 6 amp modeling is all digital. It's more of a pre-amp but you plug it into your power-amp or PA and there you go. Here's their bass pod pro rackmount unit.

Roasted Maple Neck......Flamed Or Bird's Eye????

That is a gorgeous instrument. You should be fine with the BE neck. That said, figured maple is a softer wood than standard maple. The one neck I have with a broken headstock is made from a heavily birdseye neck. It actually broke on two different occasions, but not a big deal as I've fixed...

Double Bass Ergo megathread part II

I would be interested in peoples experiences with using either of these cases or others with an Ergo. Also, do you need to remove the stand bass from the Ergo to put it in the case, or are you able to leave it on and just fold it up?

    Wall hangers?

I have many guitars and basses hanging from String Swing hangers. I prefer the metal ones over the wood based on looks. Metal StringSwing on Amazon They work great and never had an issue. I have many mounted in wall studs and many just in dry wall. All are holding solid with no issues. I...

My 11-yo daughter getting a bass!

I think this is the coolest thing you're doing for your daughter. I built up a bass for my 13 year old son and he loves it. Plus he's frends think its so cool that we could built up a bass from parts. Definitely a great father-son project. Regarding your choice, I would suggest something...

    Need rec for teenage girl

Switching to a 5-string at 14 is fine. My son did it and has no problem using either. I'd say use this as a great opportunity to teach her about the different things to look for in a bass - the pickups, the neck profile, checking the balance (no neck dive), bridges, .... Then teach her...
