    +1 For this. Albeit, for me, it was the other way around. Some of my members insist that a pick is the only way when they have no experience playing bass or playing bass with the fingerstyle, which I prefer. Apart from that, the cost of strings, people thinking it's easy, lack of bass gear...

    Carmine Rojas uses a 5 string. He's in Joe Bonamassa's band. If you haven't heard of him they do a lot of blues rock stuff. Great guitar player and great bassist.
