The Amazing Invisible Bassist. :)

I knew this was a common phenomenon, but it had not happened to me yet. This is until this past weekend.

While receiving handshakes and pats on the back at our recent show, I got the ole' "oh, are you in the band?".

Thing is I laughed out loud at this and said, "yes, but I was using my amazing invisible bassist powers".

I truly did not take offense and thought it was funny, but to my surprise, the person who originally made the comment seemed "miffed" by my response. :hmm:

Oh well. It was a good show and my band seems to really be gelling well. We are stepping up our game and are planning something quite a bit larger than our usual gig. Here's hoping it goes well.

Kind of like the defensive back in football. Nobody knows your name until you screw up. Which at that position usually results in the other team scoring a touchdown. If they didn't know you, you probably had a good night laying down the groove. Most non musicians couldn't name the bassist for ACDC or The Rolling Stones or (insert band name here) but those bands do pretty damn well. I do like the invisible bassist powers though, great line.

Ha ha ha I had that happen mine is crazier still I have a hat, that the hat band lights up in gold leds. I wear a black leather vest and black wristbands with fire on them The band is the PHOENIXBAND. So when I went to the bar to get a drink during break the bartender wanted to charge me ( the band drinks for free) I was like I am in the band. and I got oh sorry. Who the h*ll other than a guy in the band is going up to the bar dress like that in April! lol

I once sat down with Mrs Ezbass during a gig break and a couple of other guys close by said something like "The band are pretty eh?". I could only answer that I thought the bass player was extremely talented :D

About 10 years back after a show with a trio, a drunk guy came up and shook the guitar player's hand, then the drummer's hand, skipped me, and then shook my roommate's hand (who was just there to watch) telling him "great job".

Considering I was the only caucasian member of the band and the roommate and I look absolutely nothing alike, it was rather amusing.

Having invisible bassist powers can come in really handy when:

1) You're on your 2nd break and still haven't played "Freebird" that the 6'5 drunk biker asked for the 1st set... and he's looking to take it out of someone's hide.

2) The 50-year old career bar skank is hunting down her band member "conquest" for the night.

3) The idiot drunk frat boy is bugging band members to let him come up and sing Louie Louie with them.

Other situations may apply but these three seem the most obvious.
