Yeah I did. It was a 5 minute job. It just slots in. The only thing I cut and soldered was the battery wire so I could still use the battery cavity.

I've tried every string that I can get my hands on and will only use DR steel wound strings. They last longer IMO than all the other strings and the sound is exceptional. I won't waste my money any other.

The original preamp made the bass sound to nasal and wasn't quite up to having the fat sound I wanted. The MM Retro really gives the bass a warmness I couldn't get before. I often have people come up to me after gigs and tell me how great it sounds.

The MM retro makes a world of difference to the bass. I'd definitely recommend it.

Yeah get the MM Retro. It was the best thing I could've done for my sound and it took away the awkwardness of having separate pickup volumes.

I've noticed the same thing. I was wondering if the John East pre makes a big difference in volume compared to the standard pre. When slapping I've noticed the volume is much louder at the same settings than when I use my fingers.

Just out of interest (while I wait on my preamp) what are you all playing your MM's through? I'm currently using a Ashdown MK500 (Mark King sig.) with an Ashdown 250w cab. They complement each other nicely.

I've owned an MK500 for about a year now. It sounds awesome especially combined with my Marcus Miller signature jazz bass.
