I have a fretted 4 string it was white till the owner took off finish and hand painted it red - brush strokes and all! Ive cleaned it all off and its now same as yours - did 30 odd coats of varnish thinned 50/50 with white spirit then 4 coats of car wax looks ok now ive only got to sort out...
