VOX White Shadow

No serial number to be found anywhere!
Someone told me that the 5-strings were never
actually produced and sold as were the 4-strings.
Maybe that explains why we never see any of them
and why there is no serial no.
Any idea where I can find more information?
She is such a beauty.

White Shadow's were only made for a couple of years (84-85). They came available in Black or White finishes. The Black ones have red binding on them. They were also available as a 5-string and fretless.

Here's a photos of the different versions.

White Shadows didn't sell well at all so Vox discontinued them and came up with their next generation basses the Custom and Standard.

I didn't say that the White Shadow 5-string made it into production. I simply stated that it was available to order.

..and shameless bump to see if anyone else owns / knows anything more about these.

I have a fretted 4 string it was white till the owner took off finish and hand painted it red - brush strokes and all! Ive cleaned it all off and its now same as yours - did 30 odd coats of varnish thinned 50/50 with white spirit then 4 coats of car wax looks ok now ive only got to sort out wiring and I will have a bass probably worth less than the finish cost but it was fun to do

if you know how wiring goes would be grateful if you could let me know

Can anybody confirm it's scale length? From the pictures it looks like medium scale due to bridge placement.

Ooooh! I had a black vox white shadow fretless. It was my first fretless. I got it in Denmark street around 1992 for £130 second hand. Probably overpriced? I loved that bass, the shape is great. Difficult to stand up though! I have no memory of the series/parallel switch? I traded it in (with a MIJ precision) for a lined fretless. A peavey foundation which I still have. Was probably done then as well !! The lack of lines wasn't a problem at the time as I had my basslines down for the band I was playing in. But it always left me feeling nervous!
Hmmm a pickup and bridge swap could have made it pretty tasty? The neck was really fast and the fretboard felt good quality. I called her Puschka at the time! I used to do that sort of thing!
Old Schumacher levy-9 has been a stalwart replacement though!

You might be the only living person hat knows about the Vox White Shadow.
Back in either 1984 or 1985, I picked up the fretless model (new) while stationed in Scotland. Within only a few years of purchasing it, I returned to the music shop and ask some questions. The very same gentleman who sold it to me was unable to find any information.
I still have it, but haven't used it in years. In my opinion, it's not a friendly bass.

I think that the scale length is 34" (which is standard).
If I had your bass along with a tape measure handy, I'd be happy to give you you a more precise reply!

I have a White Shadow fretted bass in black, made in Japan (not M series). It is 34" scale.
I replaced the bridge with a badass II and the pickup with a Seymour Duncan SPB1.
I've been playing precision bass for a while, I have a Mex PJ and a Japanese E series. The Vox sounds far better than either, a really nice growly tone. I like it so much, I'm wanting to try recreate it in a P bass, starting with an Ash body, which is what the Vox has.
