The Jazz version does not have a tonal chamber either, so I don't think it is substantially louder than the Studio. I only have a Jazz, so I cannot compare them directly, however.

I take a bit of a different approach when it comes to playing alone with effects: apart from a bit of reverb all effects affect the looped signal instead of my direct signal. In this way I am able to create interesting soundscapes over which I can improvise. Here is a pic of my pedalboard:

The pickup is integrated in the top of the bass and therefore not visible; it is the luthier’s own design. The output jack is located at the back of the bass.

I love it! In the past I used a Glockenklang Bass Art preamp, and this sounds very similar, albeit with a bit more “oomph,” if that makes sense, especially when dialing in more gain. It is a wonderful preamp.
