Is there a Yamaha BB club? There is now!

Odd, I had the same problem with my brand-new BB2025x: the toggle switch stopped working a week or so after I got it. I mucked around with the swtich for a bit before finally taking the bass to a repair shop, where I had the switch replaced with a blend pot. I am a much happier camper now.

Is there a Yamaha BB club? There is now!

I have always loved the BB look, although it took me years and years to finally get one. I started off with a BB615 -- unfortunately in ugly pewter was all that was available -- and she totally sold me on the BB line. So I recently upgraded to a BB2025x, and it was an excellent decision. THe...

Bass stories: You're first bass and your favorite bass

I started off on an old Ibanez Les Paul copy that belonged to my high school, and I learned just enough to convince me that bass playing was what it was all about. So over the next year I saved up my pennies and then walked into the nearest music store where I bought the first Fender Precision...

Do Stickers Make a Bass Trashy?

I encourage my students, but especially the younger ones, to do whatever they can to make their instrument "theirs". Give it a name, put on a sticker, sign it, whatever. The kids take on more ownership, it seems, which leads to more dedication to practicing and working, and most of them are on...

The big NYC Jazz-Bass Comparo!! (Sadowsky, Lakland, Pensa, Spector content)

I played a Pensa-Suhr J since 1989: I love the instrument despite its minimal flaws, and it truly represents "me." Curious, I walked into their shop the other day and saw the almost identical instrument hanging on the wall, except in a fretless version. Heaven! To my relief, that instrument...

Ever been disappointed by one of the "better" basses?

It's funny, the OP and the first response both list exactly the basses that have failed to impress me. I have lusted after a Rick for years, but really only because of the looks; I have yet to find one -- in a store, in a friend's house, on a stage -- that feels right and sounds like "me." And...

Is there a Yamaha BB club? There is now!

Yeah, I went for the active Yamaha because my other gigging basses are all active, too, and I thought I'd have less fiddling to do on stage to get levels and eq's to match between instrument changes. I chose the BB615 because I've always loved the way the BB's look and I wanted one that...

Is there a Yamaha BB club? There is now!

I got a BB615 last year and it has quickly become a standard part of my stable. I love the feel of the neck. I don't love the preamp. It's noisy and the frequencies it boosts don't suit my taste. I am considering replacing the guts with something else. But it's very much a fun bass to play...

Is a 2x10 big enough for live gigs? (New Portaflex content!)

I play both a 4x10 and a 2x10, depending on the situation. If there's a PA, the on-stage rig is really only there to give you (and, if the monitors suck, the rest of the band) some bass, and for that, a 2x10 is usually more than enough (depending, though, of course, on how loud the rest of the...

SOLD BASS MUST GO! 1976 Alembic Series 1 - $2350 shipped

What a nice bass at a super price. If I were in the market for a four-string, we'd be talking. Oh, yeah, I'd have to have money, too.

SOLD Acacia Lined Fretless 5 string

Holy smoke, is that a beautiful bass! I love the fact that the cover for the electronics has been made from the same piece of wood so that the grain continues through beautifully.

    Getting feedback?

I've been scooting around TB for about a year now and am really enjoying what I discover about gear, techniques, and approaches. I also regularly look in the Classifieds, as I suffer mightily from G.A.S. and my dream bass could show up for sale any day. However, my feedback rating here is 0...
