    Beginner Bass

If possible, I would borrow one for a while, get to grips with it, then go to a store and try a few.

    Royal Bloods, worth a listen

I just saw them on Jules Holland show, and I'm blown away.

Why am I "afraid" of Basswood and should I be?

If it sounds right, it is right.

    Hide Lines on Fretless Bass

Why do you think the audience even cares? :hiding:

Help me choose my first bass from the list

What type of music do you play?

    Dove right into fretless...

Good to hear a story like that. I started playing bass over 25 years ago when I first heard Mick Karn. Then, 5 years ago, I finally got hold of a fretless for the first time ever, and found I just couldn't get on with it. :-(

    Old question..Squier vs MIM

They are very close. A bad MIM may not sound as good as a great Squier. Try before you buy - side by side if possible - is the best advice.

    The only Downside to Flatwounds

I don't care about what they feel like - I'd get used to the feel either way. If I'm playing by myself, I probably prefer the round of rounds, but in my experience, the rhythm section as a whole has so much more power when I play with flats that I could never go back.

    Round Wound vs. Flat Wound

I find my sound gels with the drums better if I use flats. (Squire Jazz bass and Musicman SUB).

Well I think thats it for my Ray 34

You've got it all upside down. You down't change your tone to fit in with the band. The band has to fit around you. ;-)

Which of these options would be the best?

For playing, or as an investment (for most people, it's both). Try both and see what you need!

    Musicman clones

I have an OLP MM2 and a Musicman SUB. I find the OLP more playable, but as already mentioned, the electronics aren't great (not terrible, either, just not great).

Im Considering Getting An OLP MM. How do they match up to actual stingrays?

OLP are great, but prices are creeping up past what they're really worth, in my opinion. You can upgrade the pickup, but AFAIK they are passive (mine is definitely passive), so you can't do anything about a pre-amp unless you carve out the body (and probably more bother than it's worth).

    Which budget MusicMan?

Thanks for your advice, everybody. Someone nearby is selling an SUB on ebay. I'm going to go over and check it out this week. A few people have suggested changing the pickup on on my OLP. Do you mean upgrade the passive PUP to an active PUP? Wouldn't that require some woodwork to make space for...

    Which budget MusicMan?

After a recent small windfall, I want to buy a budget MusicMan bass. At the moment I have an OLP, which is great, but I'd like a little more grunt and tonal flexibility. I'm a little bit confused about the two types that seem to around - I've seen Music Man Subs, and also Sterling Ray 34s (I'm...
