I can see the merits of the plan. Here's where i admit I gigged it last night with just the two screws in each tuner. :)

BTW...the pictured Nate Mendel P-Bass weighed just shy of 8lbs when it came to me. With the GBR-640s, vintage bent metal bridge, and aluminum knobs it weighs 7lbs 4oz and still rings like a bell. I'm kind of in love.

Thanks...I did see those, but assumed they were the same weight. Research indicates they are in fact a bit lighter than the Fender tuners. I have a set of GBR640 Re-O-lites on there right now, but only two screw holes line up. Now that I know how light it CAN be with them and how nicely it...

It certainly is now! A lot of Viking Blue aged to Belair Green.

I've no doubt there are exceptions based on the number of notched out pickguards I've seen over the years, but I haven't encountered one yet. Maybe I happen to have just the right screwdriver.
