    Yeah, strings are critical and sometimes problematic. I tried a Warwick 32" 5er which sounded pretty nice, but i returned when i realised there were no suitable aftermarket flats available. As it happens TI flats, which are sold as 'short scale' are a little too long on the E for a 30", but...

    MIJ domestic market Aerodyne jazz bass. 32" scale, and only 8lbs.

    Chances are that the guy at the bar won't even be able to hear the bass. Strings and I've built basses of all 3 scale lengths and the biggest difference between them is likely due to the strings and electronics With an East tone preamp an TI flats I can make any bass sound like any bass.
